Artist book: Paper pulp painting, woodcut. Edition of 10: 18.25" x 12.25" (closed); 18.25" x 71" (fully opened)
MEMORY ENTANGLED is about the fear of Alzheimer’s disease. The fear of stepping out of a life filled with nature and light and vitality into a confusion of branches, plaques, and tangles. Into a life that seems claustrophobic and barren. My mother died of Alzheimer’s, and I live with that fear.
I created MEMORY ENTANGLED by printing woodcuts onto pulp-painted sheets made of 1/3 abaca, 1/3 cotton, and 1/3 linen. The cover is a woodcut printed onto Japanese Lace Ukigumo adhered to Thai Mulberry Black paper. The design of the cover is inspired by photos of brain damage in Alzheimer’s patients. The inside front cover is Japanese Lace Ukigumo adhered to Thai Mulberry Black paper. The inside back cover is Unryu Kozo White adhered to Thai Mulberry Black paper. The colophon is ink jet printed onto Kozo White.
